Katie Noonan
The Commonwealth Bank Sublime Tour: Voice
Not only a singer but also a songwriter, keyboardist, producer and administrator, the ARIA-winning Katie Noonan is recognised as one of the most distinctive talents in Australian contemporary music.
With a voice whose haunting beauty and expressive range has been described as pop coloratura, Katie Noonan has performed throughout Australia and in England, Scotland, Ireland and Japan. Best known for her work with george – their debut album Polyserena debuted at number 1 and went on to sell in excess of double platinum and their second album Unity has gone Gold. Her other major project – the jazz trio Elixir – has also achieved great commercial success, with its debut album entering the charts at number 24 and staying in the Top 30 for five weeks in 2003.
Moonlighting in jazz, pop and opera, she has appeared in sold-out concerts with the Sydney Symphony, The Adelaide Symphony, West Australian Symphony and Queensland Orchestras, she has sung alongside Oscar winning composer Howard Shore and Australian jazz great Paul Grabowsky and her soprano mother Maggie Noonan in their opera/jazz project Two of a Kind.
To quote The Australian reviewer Murray Black in his review of her Lord of the Rings Symphony sold out performance at the Sydney Opera House June 2004 – “The undoubted highlight of the evening was guest vocalist Katie Noonan. Here is a rare talent with a voice of extraordinary beauty and versatility. In most of her solos, she sounded like a classical soprano as she soared over the orchestra with a spine-tingling, vibrato-less angelic purity. Then, in Gollum’s Song and the Oscar winning Into the West, she revealed her pop diva credentials with her strong, clear voice projecting effortlessly out in the audience.”
