Artist Managers and Soloists

The ACO is a touring orchestra which offers only eight programs each year, across Australia and overseas. Opportunities for soloists are extremely limited and highly sought-after. Due to the overwhelming amount of interest, the ACO can no longer accept unsolicited material from soloists or artist managers.

Composers

Due to its unique touring pattern, the ACO offers only eight programs a year - so opportunities for composers are limited. The ACO is known for programming a broad range of music and we are interested in expanding the repertoire for chamber orchestras.

If you are a composer who is represented by the Australian Music Centre, there is no need to contact us - we regularly view the AMC catalogue (www.amcoz.com.au). If you are not represented by the AMC, and you think you have a piece well suited to the ACO, you are welcome to post a cover letter, CV (maximum two pages) and three sample pages of the score. If you have a CD recording of the work, please send that too. Please do not send scores electronically and don't send parts, either. Midi recordings are acceptable if there is no alternative. Please note that our core strength is strings (55331) and we are a touring orchestra. Works for large forces or which require a complicated venue set-up are less likely to be of interest.

Due to the amount of material we receive, getting an answer from us can take some time. We will email you an acknowledgement of receipt, and then you might not hear anything for a long time. Please be patient as everything is examined eventually. Please provide full contact details including an email address and postal address.

Submissions should be addressed to:

Administrative positions

The company is run by about 20 staff, with roles in marketing and public relations, artistic administration and business development to operations management, IT and financial affairs. Our staff performs a crucial (albeit largely invisible) role in supporting the public face of the Orchestra.

Current vacancies:

Pre-concert Speakers - Perth
Call for Expressions of Interest

The Australian Chamber Orchestra presents 5 subscription concerts in Perth each year. Prior to each concert there is a free, 25-minute pre-concert talk, which introduces the music to interested audience members. Speakers receive a small per-talk honorarium and two tickets to the performance. They are supplied with program notes and a reference CD in advance; however some individual research is expected. These are talks, not read lectures. Musical examples (on CD) are expected, to illustrate the talk. Speakers must have advanced knowledge of orchestral repertoire and a confident and engaging manner of public speaking.

To have your name included on the Register of potential speakers, Perth residents are invited to submit a one-page application or approximately 450 words outlining relevant skills and experience to headoffice@aco.com.au with "Pre-Concert Speaker - Perth" in the subject line. Inclusion on the Register does not guarantee an engagement.

National Publicist

Based in Sydney, the National Publicist generates media coverage to build the ACO’s national and international profile and maximise ticket sales. The ideal candidate will demonstrate previous public relations experience with established media contacts and classical music knowledge. To receive a full position description, please email georgia.rivers@aco.com.au.

Internship opportunities

The ACO also welcomes students interested in Arts Administration looking for hands-on opportunities in a working orchestra. These study attachments can be arranged in many areas, including administration, marketing, operations and IT. Availability of these positions are dependent on the number of hours students are able to commit as well as workload needs at the time which the attachment is desired.

Internship positions are unpaid, but they can provide students with scholastic credit, in addition to a rewarding experience. Other benefits may include mentoring, complimentary ACO tickets and attendance at open rehearsals. Internship inquiries should include the applicant's area(s) of interest, the intended duration of the attachment and availability (in weekly hours.) The duration of the internship should be at least four weeks or more, and pertaining to tertiary-level study.

To inquire about internship positions, please send your resume and cover letter indicating your area of interest to:

Australian Chamber Orchestra
Attn: Internship Inquiries PO Box R21
Royal Exchange NSW 1225 Australia

Or email: headoffice@aco.com.au
with "Internship Inquiry" in your subject line.

Please note that the ACO currently does not accept applications for short-term work experience.
