In 2008 a cello made in 1729 by Giuseppe Guarneri filius Andreae, father of Guarnerius del Gesù, makes its debut with the ACO. Bought for the use of Timo-Veikko Valve, the Orchestra’s Principal Cello, this extraordinary instrument was also generously donated by an anonymous benefactor. Experts agree it is likely both father and son had a hand in the cello’s making, so it is a ‘close relative’ and fitting musical partner to Richard’s violin.
