Qantas Emerging Artists Program

The Qantas Emerging Artists Program connects the next generation of talented young Australian string players with members of the ACO. As a small, permanent ensemble, the ACO is uniquely positioned to offer young musicians the opportunity to rehearse and perform with its renowned players in an ongoing mentoring situation over a concert season. The program is tailored to suit the strengths and needs of each musician. Emerging Artists recieve:

  • Intensive periods of chamber music and chamber orchestra performances with members of the ACO, including performances with ACO2;
  • Private lessons with their mentor;
  • Audition preparation for a mock audition held at the end of the program;
  • Access to ACO rehearsals.

Selected Emerging Artists go on tour nationally and internationally with the ACO, and it is a testament to the program's success that former Emerging Artists Madeleine Boud and Rebecca Chan have been appointed members of the ACO.

In 2012, Emerging Artists travel once again to play with Richard Tognetti and ACO musicians at the Niseko Winter Festival in Japan. 2012 Emerging Artists will also perform with ACO2, led by Richard Tognetti, in The Reef tour.

2013 Applications
Applications for the 2013 program are now open. Talented young string players with extensive performance experience, aged between 18 and 27, should send the following:

  • An unedited CD (no DVDs) recording of your playing, containing two contrasting works or movements, at least one of which should be with piano accompaniment. You may also include a chamber work but this must be in addition, not instead of, the two contrasting works;
  • A current CV;
  • The completed application form.

Shortlisted candidates are invited to play in small chamber music sessions with members of ACO. Emerging Artists are then selected. Once candidates have been accepted into the program, they will be sent dates for the following year.
