Thinking about Forever...

A major new performance piece by Australia's most exciting young composer, Matthew Hindson, and choreographer Kay Armstrong, in collaboration with Western Sydney's best young dancers and classical musicians. Six months of inspiring workshops and rehearsals culminate in this performance by the Australian Chamber Orchestra, youMove Dance Company with selected students from the Department of Education and Training, Western Sydney Region DANCE OFF! Camps and the ACO's youth orchestra, the Parramatta String Players. This is the latest in a string of high-octane dance pieces by Matthew Hindson, who has created work for the Birmingham Royal Ballet, San Francisco Ballet and Sydney Dance Company.

FOR TEACHERS
Teachers are invited to download resources including a clip of the new work for their students to create their own composition or choreography ahead of the performance, which they can then compare with the final product that they see on stage in September. These resources outline the creative process that has gone into Thinking about Forever..., including exercises for students. You can then link this with discussions and projects around Sustainability and what it means to your students, just like the students involved in this performance did.

PARRAMATTA STRING PLAYERS
The ACO runs their own youth chamber orchestra, the Parramatta String Players, who rehearse with ACO musicians plus get tickets to rehearsals and concerts. All you need to do is play violin, viola, cello or double bass and be at the recommended standard or about (see Combined Schools Worskhops above) and you could be in for the experience of a lifetime.
As well as the exciting Thinking about Forever... project, students will undertake workshops and rehearsals, learning string orchestra repertoire under the expert guidance of rehearsal leader, Kerry Martin, and ACO mentors. They will also be invited to open rehearsals with the ACO and ACO2.
The same core group of students are participating in the string orchestra for the duration of this three year program, which began in 2008, however a limited number of places will become available in 2010 as older students graduate. For students who wish to participate in the Parramatta String Players Program in 2010, please download and complete the application form.
