ACO on Olympus, Sydney Gala Dinner
On September 23, the ACO hosted its annual Sydney Gala Dinner at Doltone House, Pyrmont. The Sydney Gala Dinner raises funds for the ACO’s National Education Program, which allows members of the Orchestra to reach out to young musicians around Australia, providing them with the educational, social and health benefits music can bestow.
This year the theme was ACO on Olympus, and Doltone House was transformed into a glorious Greek retreat. As the gods on Olympus were entertained by Apollo playing his golden lyre, guests at ACO on Olympus enjoyed a stunning performance by the Orchestra, led by Richard Tognetti. Julian Morrow and Craig Reucassel from The Chaser were superb MCs for the evening, and celebrity chef Tony Bilson created a feast fit for the gods.
The highlight of the evening, however, was a stirring performance by the Parramatta String Players, members of the ACO’s National Education Program. These students performed alongside the Orchestra with vigour and precision, impressing the Orchestra and guests alike. It was truly wonderful for all to experience the inspiring outcome of this growing Education Program.
Over $300,000 was raised for our Education Program and we are enormously grateful to all who attended and donated this year.
