ACO2 connects the next generation of talented young Australian musicians with the stars of the Australian Chamber Orchestra, creating a combined ensemble with a fresh, energetic performance style.
Hear ACO2 perform classics for string orchestra from the Eighteenth to Twentieth centuries. Mendelssohn’s youthful string symphonies were inspired by Mozart and share the same lightness of being as Mozart’s buoyant Violin Concerto No.2, a delightful showcase for ACO violinist Helena Rathbone. Tchaikovsky’s Serenade is a radiant homage to Mozart, and one of the composer’s own favourite works. In Smith’s Alchemy, the orchestra plays a virtuosic game, tossing fragments of melody back and forth to make music as exciting as a thriller’s film score.
The Ensemble will present concerts in Parramatta, Coffs Harbour, Lismore, Toowoomba and Noosa along with an Education Concert in Bellingen and Education Workshops in Parramatta, Bellingen, Toowoomba, Noosa and Bundaberg.
