It has to have been one of the hardest decisions of my life, but today I’ve announced that I am leaving the ACO to take up the position of Executive Director, Performing Arts at the Sydney Opera House, commencing on 30th November.
For the last five and a half years, I have loved every moment with the Orchestra – the excitement of working in partnership with an inspirational Artistic Director; the strategic guidance of a superb Board of Directors; the collegiality of my wonderful colleagues in the Administration; the generosity and commitment of our magnificent circle of sponsors and donors; and the unflaggingly splendid performances of the musicians of the ACO every time they step on-stage.
In my new role, I will oversee all of the Sydney Opera House’s programming as well as having responsibility for its relations with the resident companies (including, I am happy to say, the ACO).
While I am very excited about the challenges of my new role, I will miss the ACO greatly. I am however very pleased that my new position will offer me the opportunity to collaborate with so many wonderful companies in the Australian performing arts scene.
I will remain with the ACO until the end of October and fully intend to be an ACO groupie on the Hong Kong tour in November, by which time my only official responsibility will be to buy martinis in the bar on the top floor of the Mandarin Oriental.
