ACO Inspire Quartet on Tour

Posted on 2 May 2016 by Cristina Maldonado

The ACO Inspire Quartet was excited to kick off 2016 with a tour to regional Queensland. Jenny Khafagi (violin), filled us in on their activities.

We began with a string workshop hosted by Rockhampton Grammar School, working with students from Rockhampton Grammar, The Cathedral College and Yeppoon State High School on Vivaldi’s ’Spring’ from The Four Seasons, and Faure’s ‘Pavane’. The students were extremely open to discussion on the stylistic approach to each piece, and had some great ideas on phrasing.

Our next stop on the tour was in Southport, where we worked with students from 13 local schools. It was really interesting to see the different approach of these students to the music, and while it was a much bigger group than in Rockhampton, it was great to see kids who didn’t know each other well to come together in such a limited time and perform so well as a group.

To wrap up our first tour of the year, we held a string workshop with Cairns Senior High School students at the incredible Tanks Arts Centre in Cairns. This venue is an iconic contemporary arts facility and gallery space housed inside three converted concrete World War Two fuel storage tanks. It was such an impressive atmosphere to be able to work in, surrounded by huge and intricate artworks by local indigenous artists, which provided a dramatic backdrop to our performance.
