On Sunday 15 May, Penrith Strings had their first public concert for the year, in the Concert Hall of the Joan Sutherland Performing Arts Centre in Penrith.

This was the culmination of two terms of work by this fantastic ensemble of 31 school students.  So far this year, the students have taken part in four weekend workshops with Penrith Symphony Orchestra mentors, a string workshop with ACO Collective led by Pekka Kuusisto and two weekend workshops with ACO musicians.

The improvement in the ensemble since its first public concert last year was remarkable. The Penrith Strings played to a large and appreciative audience who also enjoyed looking at the artworks by St Mary’s North Public School students taking part in the ACO Music & Art Program this year, in the foyer of the Joan.

The next public performance of Penrith Strings will take place on Sunday 23 October at the Joan – try to get along!
