Penrith Strings Concert

Posted on 19 May 2017 by Cristina Maldonado

The Penrith Strings Program has had a great start to the year. In March, they had their first two sessions for 2017 with their Penrith Symphony Orchestra (PSO) tutors, followed by a workshop with ACO musicians.

2017 marks an exciting moment for our Penrith Program. We will shortly open applications for wind, brass and percussion sections to create the Penrith Youth Orchestra in 2018. As part of our Penrith Program activities, we also began a new junior strings program at St Marys North Public School. The first intake is five beginner violins and three cellists.

Following the exciting line-up of activities, Penrith Strings performed its first public concert for 2017 with the ACO Ensemble on Sunday 21 May at The Joan. The concert began with the ACO Ensemble performing Mendelssohn, Haydn and Paul Stanhope, followed by the Penrith Strings playing alongside their mentors in Mozart’s uplifting Divertimento in F major, Grieg’s beautiful, bittersweet Vaaren (or Last Spring) and Geminiani’s dance-like La Folia variations.
