In 2015 we started our Penrith Youth Orchestra Program. It's an exciting partnership with the Penrith Symphony Orchestra (PSO) and the Joan Sutherland Performing Arts Centre (The Joan).

This orchestral training program for talented young string players in Western Sydney offers students the opportunity to work with musicians from the ACO and PSO, culminating in public concerts at The Joan. The inaugural Penrith Strings concert that took place on Sunday 2 August received great feedback.

‘It was a great showcase of the musical talents possessed by these young people and the length and strength of the applause at the end was justification of the effort that had been devoted to making the concert such a success. All these young musicians involved can feel very proud of the standard of musical performance displayed, playing alongside such skilful musicians of the ACO Ensemble. They all gave us a great deal of pleasure – it was a wonderful concert.’ Trevor Barman, Headmaster of Blue Mountains Grammar School.

The final Penrith Strings performance for 2015 is on this Sunday 18 October 3pm at the Joan Sutherland Performing Arts Centre.
