Picton Strings are an ensemble of school-aged students from the Wollondilly Shire, led by local musician Katie Spicer. From 2011 to 2014 we mentored the students in a community program run in partnership with Wollondilly Shire Council and Classics at Picton.
Each year we facilitated workshops and held a residency in Picton, and performed concerts for the community performing alongside the Picton Strings. When we began the program, there was just one senior ensemble. Now there are three ensembles under the umbrella of the Picton Strings. The ACO's Music & Art Program was also piloted at Picton Public School, and the program is now an integral part of the schools curriculum.
To join Picton Strings, please visit pictonstrings.org. All students who play the violin, viola, cello or double bass are welcome to join, and will be placed in the junior or senior group according to their standard.
"Playing with the ACO has been one of the most inspiring and helpful experiences I have ever had. I always have so much fun while playing with them."
