The Penrith Youth Orchestra

In partnership with the Joan Sutherland Performing Arts Centre and Penrith Symphony Orchestra, we mentor students through our Penrith Strings ensemble and deliver the ACO Music and Art and ACO Foundations programs to schools in and around Penrith.

Penrith Youth Orchestra

In 2015, we created the Penrith Strings ensemble to build ensemble skills in young musicians from Western Sydney and a pathway towards other opportunities such as membership of PSO, or for some, a career in music.

In 2018, wind, brass and percussion instruments joined this hugely successful orchestral training ensemble to form the inaugural Penrith Youth Orchestra.

Students participate in rehearsals and workshops each term coached by PSO and ACO musicians, that culminate in a performance playing alongside professional musicians. They also attend ACO and PSO concerts free of charge.

If you or anyone you know would like to learn more about this exciting opportunity, please refer to the Penrith Youth Orchestra Website, or email the PYO Coordinator at

ACO Music and Art Program

We deliver the ACO Music and Art Program curriculum to Penrith Public School and St Marys North Public School. The students learn from our musicians and the ACO Inspire Quartet visits the schools each year.

ACO Foundations

We are piloting the ACO Foundations Program at St Marys North Public School from 2018. Year one students will learn the violin and cello with extensive resources and evaluation tools provided to teachers to support their teaching.

In 2017, eight students in years 3 and 4 began lessons on the violin and cello and formed a string ensemble.

This program is made possible through the generous support of the Crown Resorts Foundation and Packer Family Foundation.
