MESSIAEN Vingt regards sur l’enfant-Jésus
(Twenty Contemplations on the Infant Jesus)

Steven Osborne Piano

Olivier Messiaen's Vingt Regards sur l'Enfant Jésus is a towering specimen of 20th century pianism and on this rare occasion you have the chance to hear it as the composer intended.

Written in 1944 at the close of WWII and premiered by Messiaen's wife Yvonne Loriod, this epic piano cycle is performed by Scottish piano virtuoso Steven Osborne in its entiry, who was taught the work by Loriod herself. There is no-one more capable of presenting an authentic rendition of Messiaen’s immense work than the masterly Osborne so do not miss out on a rare opportunity to hear him in the intimate surrounds of Verbruggen Hall.

The Guardian (UK) gave Osborne's recording of Messiaen's marathon work five stars: "arguably the most important contribution to the piano literature since Debussy". Full review here.
