BACH Andante from Sonata for Solo Violin No.2 in A minor

Bach’s Sonatas and Partitas for solo violin represent the ultimate challenge for any violinist. Not only are they extremely technically challenging, but they make great demands on the performer in terms of interpretation and expression. Richard Tognetti has a close affinity with these works, and his recordings of Bach have won three consecutive ARIA awards.

BACH Brandenburg Concerto No.6 in B-flat major

Bach’s six concertos presented to the Margrave of Brandenburg are considered to be among the finest orchestral compositions of the Baroque era. They are like the concerto grossos of Corelli or Vivaldi, featuring groups of solo instruments, but are much more daringly scored. In the sixth concerto, Bach pits two violas against viola da gambas, cellos and bass. In the first movement the violas chase each other in a very close canon, while in the last they take part in a merry gigue.
