What does music mean to you?
I remember like it was yesterday, the adrenaline rush I felt the very first time I played my violin for an audience as a young boy. Suddenly, the energy in the room seemed to give my playing and the music new meaning. That was the moment I realised there was something about this shared experience which nothing else in life could replicate.
It’s this human connection between us all, players and audience, which inspires the ACO to keep performing with a spring in our step, year after year. We work hard to continue crossing centuries, borders and boundaries to bring our music to our ACO family: old and new, near and far, young and old.
But we can't do it alone.
Each year we are increasingly reliant on philanthropic support to deliver our programs as ticket sales revenue alone can’t cover our costs. Every gift we receive – large or small – helps. When I think about what music means to me, I always come back to the buzz I felt during that first concert all those years ago – it’s that feeling which fuels my passion to this day. After all, what does music really mean if we can’t share it?
