Performance Info
Commissioned by the Australian Chamber Orchestra and shaped through an extended creative collaboration, Horizon is a 40‑minute, two‑movement work for strings that unfolds with immense scale and stillness. Inspired by Australia’s vast landscapes, John Luther Adams explores the meeting of space and time through the idea of two horizons: the visible horizon shaped by land and human presence, and the true horizon where sky meets earth or sea. Recorded in Sydney with the composer present and directed by Richard Tognetti, this release captures the ACO’s distinctive sound in a work of rare depth, clarity and elemental power.
