Commissioned by the Australian Chamber Orchestra, Horizon is a large-scale, two‑movement work for strings by Pulitzer Prize and Grammy Award–winning composer John Luther Adams. Shaped through an extended collaboration with the Orchestra, the work unfolds over 40 minutes of expansive, finely balanced sound.
Inspired by Australia’s vast and varied landscapes, Horizon invites listeners into a heightened sense of space and time, where subtle shifts of harmony and texture mirror the slow movement of land, sea and sky. Recorded in Sydney with the composer present and directed by Richard Tognetti, this world premiere recording captures the Australian Chamber Orchestra at its most attentive, precise and immersive.
