Music has long been intertwined with healing — stirring memory, shaping emotion, and offering moments of reflection amid life’s demands. Music is Medicine brings together the musical voices of the Sydney medical student community in a concert celebrating the profound connection between artistry and the practice of medicine.
The evening features Australian pianist and medical student Joshua Han, whose performances have been praised for their “complete mastery of his instrument as well as complete empathy with the music” (Sydney Arts Guide). His recital will feature staples of the Western tonal tradition, including Bach/Busoni’s Chaconne and Stravinsky/Agosti’s Firebird Suite. Following this, musicians of the Sydney School of Medicine and Double Degree Medicine Program will take the stage in a vibrant medley of solo and ensemble performances, sharing works that hold personal meaning — music that has sustained them through study, challenge, and discovery.
Supported by the Harold and Gwenneth Harris Endowment for Medical Humanities, this inaugural concert celebrates the idea that music enriches not only the lives of performers, but also the broader community. All ticket proceeds will be donated to the Royal Flying Doctor Service, affirming the belief that music can heal, inspire, and connect us all.
This concert affirms the timeless idea that Music is Medicine — for the student, for the physician, for the patient, and for humanity.
