How to Catch a Star, book v show

From Book to Stage: How to Catch a Star

See how the ACO has transformed Oliver Jeffers’ beautiful children’s book into vivid scenes for the stage, in side-by-side comparisons of illustrations and their equivalent show moment.

The Australian Chamber Orchestra’s ACO Families production of How to Catch a Star is returning to the stage in 2024, touring from May and showing at our ACO Pier 2/3 venue in Sydney in the July school holidays (6–11 July).

The show is written and directed by Sandra Eldridge, with set and costumes designed by Melanie Liertz, and lighting by Matt Cox.

The team has captured beautifully the shapes and essence of author Oliver Jeffer’s original illustrations for the book in their stage production, and we have loved comparing key scenes from the book to how it comes to life on stage, performed by actor William Bartolo.

With movement directed by Elle Evangelista, and music by acclaimed composer Elena Kats-Chernin – performed by an ACO Quartet  How to Catch a Star is a magical show for the whole family.
