How to Catch a Star

ACO Schools: How To Catch A Star

Experience Oliver Jeffers’ magical children’s book brought to life on stage with live music performed by ACO musicians.

Once there was a boy and the boy loved stars very much.
Every night he watched the stars from his window and wished he had one of his own.
One day, he decided he would try to catch a star… but first he had to think of a plan…

Our enchanting sell-out show, How to Catch a Star, is returning to the ACO with a series of dedicated schools performances in Term 2, 2024.

Based on the internationally bestselling children’s book by acclaimed artist, author and illustrator Oliver Jeffers, this heartwarming production about reaching for dreams will take students on a journey from awe and wonder, through perseverance to triumph. In this stunning adaptation, Jeffers’ magical tale is brought to life on stage through storytelling and exquisite music performed by an ACO string quartet.

How to Catch a Star is the perfect introduction to live classical music for Kindergarten to Year 2 students. Following the performance students will participate in an educational Q&A session with the ACO musicians, learning about their instruments, and storytelling through music. A teaching resource kit will be provided to use in the classroom before and after the performance.

"The wonder of the book is captured through the finely composed art of the music, an exceptional ACO string quartet, movement, dialogue, and simple puppetry by a multi-talented performer portraying the boy. This is a joyous piece of theatre for people of all ages, but especially those who still every night wish upon a star”. - Sandra Eldridge, Writer & Director
