What is the ‘ACO Foundations: Beginner Strings Intensive’?

This brand-new program is built on our highly successful ACO Foundations model, combining best-practice music education with an inclusive, flexible, and engaging classroom approach. Led by two of our experienced ACO Foundations educators, this week-long intensive will introduce beginners to the violin or cello and inspire their musical journey. Each instrument group is limited to 20 students who will learn the fundamentals of string playing, develop essential techniques, and build confidence with their instrument through games, ensemble activities, and creative music-making.

Who is the program for?

ACO Foundations: Beginner Strings Intensive is designed for children aged 7 – 10 years old who have never played a string instrument and would like to try. Instruments will be provided, and no prior music knowledge is required.

How do I enrol?

Select the instrument your child would like to learn (violin or cello) and complete the enrolment form for that instrument. At the end of the form, you will be redirected to payment.

How much does the program cost?

The cost of the program is $550 (inc. GST) for the week and includes instrument rental, expert tuition and supervision between the hours of 9am – 1pm.

What to expect

Throughout the week, students will work in groups with ACO Foundations educators to develop core skills on their chosen instrument including posture, playing technique, rhythm and ensemble playing, while building confidence and enjoyment in music-making. The 3-hour sessions will include games, songs and other activities to keep children engaged and having fun, with plenty of breaks provided. The week will conclude with a concert for parents and friends.

When does the program take place?

The program runs from Monday 13 - Friday 17 April 2026 from 9:30am to 12:30pm each day (supervision is provided from 9am – 1pm).

The program will be held in the state-of-the-art facilities at ACO On The Pier in Hickson Rd, Walsh Bay.
