Whether playing Radiohead or Ravel, the foursome performs with precision and power. The effect is intimate, electric, and unforgettable. It’s made them a favourite with pop and electronic artists including Billie Eilish, TOKiMONSTA and Squarepusher.
The ACO is thrilled to present the New York-based quartet on their first Australian tour. They’re already on their way to cult status, regularly collaborating with leading contemporary composers. They have a rich artistic partnership with Caroline Shaw, and in this concert will perform her contemplative masterpiece Three Essays, and her popular The Evergreen, inspired by a single moss-covered tree and the complexity that lies beneath. Among other favourite string quartet repertoire, the quartet will play Beethoven’s monumental String Quartet in A Minor. Composed in the aftermath of his world-changing ninth symphony – and featuring the extraordinary Hymn of Thanksgiving written after the composer recovered from a life-threatening illness– this is a work of artistic bravery and spiritual transcendence.
This is your chance to hear the hottest sound in strings today, in the intimate surrounds of the Nielsen.
“Exuberant, funky and... more exactingly nuanced.” – The New York Times
