ACO Up Close: Phil Slater

The jazz trumpeter is gathering a group of legendary jazz musicians to join him in The Neilson for a one-night-only ACO Up Close performance presenting works from his award-winning recordings The Dark Pattern and Immersion Lure.

Virtuoso jazz trumpeter Phil Slater presents a concert of his award-winning compositions, joined by a group of legendary Australian jazz musicians – including pianist Matt McMahon, bassist Brett Hirst and drummer Simon Barker.

Phil is an internationally renowned trumpeter and improvisor who is widely regarded as an icon to the local jazz community, and has performed and recorded as a featured soloist with a wide range of artists include Archie Roach, Missy Higgins, the Australian Art Orchestra, the Australian Chamber Orchestra, Andrea Keller, Paul Grabowsky, Genevieve Lacey, PNAU, Lou Reed, and many others.

His unique style blends elements of contemporary jazz with his long-time interest in classical composition and contemporary music. The concert will include compositions from his recent recordings The Dark Pattern (2019) and Immersion Lure (2023).
